Category: Excellence in Historic Preservation, Extension & Retrofitting
Project Location: The 'Green House', Gurnard, Isle of Wight
The Design Story: Awarded top honors for architectural extension and retro fit, this project involved the meticulous restoration and modern expansion of a 19th century farm house. Alchemy Architects successfully navigated sensitive local planning policies to implement a striking, contemporary extension wing, completing a central courtyard, that honors the historic brickwork while adapting the home for 21st-century energy efficiency. Historic property modernization.

Coast and Country Magazine – Pier head house and cafe project
Category: Renovation and re build of a Victorian era pier.
Project Location: Totland seafront, Isle of Wight
The Design Story: Unique pier head dwelling house gained planning approval, in conjunction with commercial cafe and the landward end. Careful negotiation with the IWCC LPA and Environment Agency to achieve permission for the UK's first new pier head dwelling. Re design of the pier stem structure, closely referencing the original Victorian design, but raising the deck level to meet Environment Agency escape levels. Replacement of all timber piles and cross braces that form the pier head deck. Redesign of the pier stem balustrade and seating. A project that breaths new life into this historic structure and local landmark for the next generation.
